Wiring Options with small-mid size studio

Hello,

I have a Soundtracs Quartz 32 x 24 console with an onboard TT patchbay. Every connection possible plus 128 tie lines in the bay. All ELCO i/o as well.

My question is what setup do you think I should put in the studio? We'll have a drum booth too. Do people put mic ins in the control room too?

Also, I am still confused how you route your signals to specific channels. IE. Do you have to have 24 ins in the studio that correspond to the 24 ins of the console? Or can you move the signal around with the patch bay? And I keep reading all this horrible stuff about patch bays and phantom power. Does phantom power affect TT patchbays?
