New panels

Post by mingo1 »

Hey all. Always found the build pics helpful. This is very similar to several on the site, but I figured it couldn't hurt to have one more post! Just moved into a larger studio space and need to build a bunch of panels. I'm experimenting a bit to find a light frame but still have the rigidity for mounting options, etc.

I'm using 2 pcs. of 2' X 4' OC703 2" per panel. I picked up some pre-cut poplar boards at Lowes. They call 'em "project" boards, and they're 1/2" thick I think (maybe a little thinner). I drilled 2" holes in one of the 4' sides. I was a little scared that the wood would crack so I didn't do the rest, but it held its own just fine. The rest I'll cut holes on all sides, every 6". Even without the holes in the other frame boards, these are EXTREMELY light weight. Much, much lighter than the typical 1 X 6 pine I've used in the past. I didn't have a scale on hand, but I could pick the frame up with my pinky...
