Changes

Post by rsb »

I have been working on some more exact plans for my room and have noticed a few issues. Go figure..

I started a scale drawing and it looks like the 60 degree option will take up less space.

To explain the picture a little I plan on making the purple portions absorbent pannels and the orange a bass trap similar to Ethans. The blue lines I planned on some sort of pannel as well ( Absorbent ).

Then covering the ceiling with 3 or 4 2' x 4' 703 pannels probably 2" thick spaced with hangers.

What do you think
Thanks

I think it's better Ryan.
I'm not sure I'd put Ethans unit opposite the door unless you intend to treat the door.
I'd probably consider using more ceiling panels.

I read an article Ethan wrote and he suggested that a ceiling be completely covered if the room is small. I have heard some conflicting opinions on this, but would be interested in yours.

I will work on some more drawings today of my construction of your soffits.

I will be filling the back 1/4 circles with regular r-11 insulation as tight as I can. With the acoustic hangers and the wall units do you think I will have sufficient bass trapping. To just lose the other membrane absorber.(Ethans) My monitors are only rated at 100hz and I will mainly be using the room for vocal tracking.

Thoughts?
THanks

Yes - do the whole ceiling, make it neutral.
Maybe you could consider doing the rear wall in Ethan's panels and then build another layer over them, not touching with a layer of insulation.? That way you get the bass absorption yet still have a dead rear wall.

Along the front wall, do you think I should make the wall flat in between the monitors?

Thanks for all your help John there is a lot to acoustics, I hope to begin building the treatments soon.

My vision

I was thinking of putting hangers in the cavity between the monitors, floor to ceiling length?

I also have that beam runing the length of the room and thougt to angle 703 pannels in front of it and to the same on the other side of the room.

This would leave a few feet running the length of the room in the middle that I would cover with pannels.

The ceiling would look something like the second picture in shape.

What do you think?

Thanks

Yeah - but make sure you have a full baffle width for the speakers.

The ceiling idea is fine :):)

I beleive this is what you meant by a full baffle?

As far as the stucture is concerned I was thinking of building a seperate structure out of plywood and then build all of these pieces inside of it. That way all of the front would be decoupled from the frame of my room.

Can I offer you anything from the States as a gift for your constant help?

Thanks
