Monitor flush mounting question

Post by Dan C »

When flush mounting monitors using this design:
http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=718
is it necessary to make the entire bezel MDF or can some 4 inch 703 be incorporated into the design above and below the speaker?

Thank you for this forum.

I believe it's recommended that the surface be reflective... the 703 would kill the sound too much.

As you see below the speaker5 there is a recessed cavity for insulation to trap sound bouncing off the mix desk, etcc so that it does not reflect direcly into your listening area. Th are above is solid as this soffit acts as an extension to the speaker.

Barefoot had some nice detailed information as to the physics behind a soffit.

Search this forum for it. :)

And stick to the design. It costs less to build this design than to buy 703 tp lace there in it's stead.

of course the modifcations i made were to use Rockwool instead of 703 (cost factors)

Thanks for the suggestions. We built one of the soffits today with a MDF bezel - solid! We did leave it open from the floor up to about 8 inches to allow for some bass trapping in the cavity behind the MDF.
Question: What type of insulation should go inside the soffit?
