Cloth ......

Post by krish »

John I gone through the studio underconstruction section and seen some photographs in which you have completely covered the walls of contol room by cloth, is it something special cloth like grill or some acoustic transparent one? i am constructing the slot resonator wall and about to choose the cloth should i have to get some special cloth?

krish - I look fo a natural cloth (i.e. not synthetic as it causes static electricity) and one with a fairly open weave. Left Bank is natural unbleached cotton.

Questions! :)

- For slot resonator examples I found in most articles, It seems like the insulation is attached to the slots. How should I do it? Is the insulation glued to the timber frame or is it glued to the cloth, then attach the slots to the cloth?
- Should I use those cloth that often used on speaker front cover for slot resonator?
- For fibreglass insulation covered with cloth, is the cloth the same as the cloth used on chairs? (Not leather chairs of course)

Tough luck. I searched for all type of acoustic material in my city, and I found... nothing. They only sell styrofoam, glass wool, carpets, and those foam which is often stuffed in a cheap pillow. :( Need some creativity here for substitute.

Just a note - www.realtraps.com has started selling 1" thick and 2" thick rigid fiberglass in small quantities. This may make life better for folks like us!

Ari - I'd like to see the articles you refer to. The cloth is mearly a cosmetic factor so you don't see the insulation through the gaps in the slots. The insulation should be at the rear of the slot.
