XLR versus TRS

Get your "what mic?" frustration or "have you heard" out here. The language could get real okka in here mate.

XLR versus TRS

Post by Ptownkid »

Are XLR cables any better than good quality TRS cables.

I'm going from compressors to a patchbay and wonder which to buy?

My compressors have both kind of ins and outs so I need either XLR to TRS or TRS to TRS.

Thanks

Well the issue isn't the cable it is the connector.

You can use mic cable all day long, just decide which type of connector you want to go with.

Although an XLR connector does provide an extra measure of sheilding.

What does this extra sheilding do?

Just helps sheilf your connection from noise at the connection point, not just the cable area.

Of course we can super anal with this as the Sleeve of a TRS connector is your ground/sheild. So it is up for grabs.

what are you trying to do to me? Now i'm going in circles trying to decide which to buy. I need 12 of the bastards, TRS to TRS are much cheaper than TRS to XLR.

My brain hurts...

Then go with TRS to TRS. Unless you plan on having a PSU right next to the connector I doubt you will have any issues. I never have. LOL

It's a matter of space, convenience and stability.

Oh yeah and for your use what type of connects on the back of the comp? TRS? If so then go TRS to TRS. :)
