Soundproofing. Room in room construction.

How thick should my walls be, should I float my floors (and if so, how), why is two leaf mass-air-mass design important, etc.

Soundproofing. Room in room construction.

Post by zygirules »

Hello!
I'm going to built my home studio. It will be used mostly for band practice, so +100dB or more, vocal recording, and initial mix before giving material to proffesionals. I need advice about room in room construction. Most thing that i need is the maximum soundproof construction, so i can play any time i want. Acoustic adaptation is other topic. I'm from Poland (central Europe, Europen Union) and i have lot of construction materials available. After hours spended in internet I have some drawings and questions. So please advice.

ROOM IN ROOM see (studio.png)

External wall (see studio.png) Should it be on floating flor or on existing floor?

Any sugestion on ceiling? Isn't it overdo?

What gauge of insulation will be most effective?

Which rockwool schould i choose? (compare pt80 vs rockslab 50mm.PNG, akupt.jpg)
PT 80 is 80kg/m3, Rocksalb is 50kg/m3, AKU Plyta it's a glasswool, i have also available rockwool with 100 and 110kg/m3 but its highly expensive, but if it will work i will take a loan :(

What gauge of air gaps will be most effective?

Green glue vs heavy gum mat 1/8in (1000kg/m3)?. Unfortunately MLV is not available in Poland.

I have found somekind of gypsum board 1/2in that is heavy as a 3/4in standard gypsum board. Which do you suggest?

Please advice and suggest.

Thank You!

Mike
