HELP! Ran out of acoustic sealant mid-job: local equivalent?

How thick should my walls be, should I float my floors (and if so, how), why is two leaf mass-air-mass design important, etc.

HELP! Ran out of acoustic sealant mid-job: local equivalent?

Post by infinitystairs »

I am currently in-flight with a crew drywalling and sealing my studio project. We ran out of Green Glue brand acoustic sealant and we are mid-job. I've ordered some more but it will take two days to get here.

Is there something that would be readily available locally that I can use as a substitute? A flexible, paintable acoustic caulk that will stick to backer rod?

yes you can use a substitute provided it's a flexible caulking, i.e. caulk that doesn't dry out and harden.

I bet it's cheaper than the green glue caulk you were using ;)

I highly recommend staying the hell away from Green Glue Sealant. I don't know if I had a single bead of that stuff not crack on me. If it's not too late, cancel your GG Sealant order!

The cheapest, easiest to use, and high performing caulk I have used is DAP Dynaflex 230 in white color.
