vga is the data buss type. lcd is the display type. most every pc monitors these days is svga, which is super vga, which has been out for so long the idea of :super" has sort of lost its thrill.
this is the info you are really needing to get at:
LCD monitors are *non magnetic*. this means they will not mess with your speakers. they will not mess with your fender stratocaster when you stare at the monitor and do 1:30am overdubs.
CRT monitors are the old clunky types with the big heavy size. these types *do* mess with magnetic sources like speakers and guitar pickups.
any studio using a big old crt monitor should be ashamed of themselves. it's inexcuseable. LCDs are silly-affordable these days.
LCD= flat panel/lightweight/non-magnetic/affordable
CRT=yesterday's technology/more size/bulky/messes with magnetic sound sources/yesterday's techology/should be given to recycling dump
as a general concept, hanging your LCD on your wall is a GREAT idea. you want your speakers to have a direct path to your ears without a lot of deflection garbage. up on the wall gets your display out of the way. of course you will have to ponder if being right up against the wall is a good idea sonically. but if your jammed up there anyway, you might as well get your monitor up there.
