Fabric Panel Wall Mounting

How thick should my walls be, should I float my floors (and if so, how), why is two leaf mass-air-mass design important, etc.

Fabric Panel Wall Mounting

Post by Audio Elements »

What's the best way to mount fabric panels (3" 703 in frame) to the wall without any visible brackets? Are there some special mounting brackets I need, or maybe something I can get from Home Depot or Lowe's?

Looking at some in a studio, but I can't see how they're attached.
Any clues?

Also, I plan on constructing the frames with 1"x3" poplar boards, does that sound right? I searched but couldn't find any sort of guide to making these panels.

Thanks,
Steve

Depending upon the wight of the things I'd think a metal strap with holes mounted to your fabric frame and screws in your walsl should work. Just make sure you find the studs :)

If you want your panels stood off the wall for better LF performance, but still want the "frameless" look, you can glue blocks to the wall, glue the impaling clips to the blocks, wrap the panels in your cloth (hot melt glue guns work well, wrap to the rear and glue down the cloth on the back side) -

Then, when you impale the absorber the blocks will stop it at a uniform distance from the wall. If you first paint the blocks to match the wall, they will almost disappear, even when looking behind the absorber... Steve

You can also build a wood "Z" or "U" shaped cleat, mount them where you want the panels, and insert the 703 UNCOVERED. Then use this these extrusions to make fabric panels any shape or length-height desired:
