I have a problem in my room.I like to listen music loud, also watching films, itd.
Since i got new speakers, genius 5.1 system, my neighbours once called police and called me for few times.
Only thing that is between me and my neighbours are 2x 1 cm thick gypsum wall, soo i came to conclusion that something must be made!
My plan was, since i cant remove or modify this gypsum wall to add another wall.
First i wanted to give 3 cm of mineral wool directly on gypsum wall
Then i wanted to build a wall from bricks directly near this mineral wool..Then i wanted to put some stiropor ( this is stiropor: http://www.hardcore-forum.com/upload/slike/stiropor.JPG ) , about 2 cm directly on this wall from bricks, then about 2 cm of wood over it, soo it will be all fixed.
Idea was to make a real wall, cause its needed, i mean, me and neighbours cant be seperated only by a peace of plastic and gypsum, we need a real wall. But with such strong wall, voice is bouncing around room, which isnt good.Thats why there is stiropor on one side, and mineral wool.
Here is the picture of my situation at home. The big stone pillar in the middle is very thick, i think its almoast 1 m.Soo it wont need much in there, maybe 2 cm of stiropor to reduce bouncing. But as you see left and right from it, i have about half metre of place to do this isolation.1st pic is as you would look right into it, and on second you have look from up, and there you see how this walls are thin compared to pillar.

I am not expert in this things, i am just a man that wants to enjoi in music on higher volume without disturbing his neighbours.
Also keep the price low, cause i am still in school and unemployed.Tnx in advance!

First, welcome to the board; before anything else, I need you to update your PROFILE to include a LOCATION - it’s not possible to suggest anything without this info because there are so many differences worldwide in what materials are available that will work, and what they cost.
My first question would have to be, is this “wall” you want to isolate, 1 gypsum panel on EACH side of a frame, or are both panels on the SAME side of the wall frame? This is VERY important.
From your drawing, am I correct in assuming that your “neighbors” place is part of the same building? Does your floor extend past the wall and into their space? What about the walls and ceiling? These things will make it even MORE expensive to isolate your space from theirs.
The plain truth is, you may be in for a disappointment - isolating sound is NEVER cheap, and can be really difficult when the structure wasn’t designed for sound control in the first place -
Let me know the answers to the above, so we can find out whether you’re in luck or in trouble… Steve
