speaker placement width

Post by jc7 »

Hi! I have Event 20/20 speakers that I am sittig on top of a home made argosy type console. Because of that I am approximately 4 feet away at the mix position. From what I have read the speakers should be placed in an equal triangle (in this case all 3 sides being 4 feet apart). Question, is this to close together width wise for good stereo separation? Also what would be optimal distance apart for such speakers? Another question , should the speakers be angled in towards each other or not? If so approximately what angle?

Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks Jeff :)

I think the generally used angle is +/- 30 degrees if the equilateral triangle (with your head at the third angle) is indeed equilateral.

Other concerns you may encounter with your setup might include reflections off the board, distance of the monitors from the walls, high freq's being shadowed by your computer monitor, relation of tweeters and woofers to ear height, proper setting of the input sensitivity on the monitors etc. etc.
