Bass trapping, diffusion.....

How thick should my walls be, should I float my floors (and if so, how), why is two leaf mass-air-mass design important, etc.

Bass trapping, diffusion.....

Post by impact_kent »

Trying to get a grasp on how I'm going to finish this room. There is a 46.5 by 70.75 inch window on the front/rear wall. To be honest, which is the front and which is the rear are kind of interchangeable at this point.

I'm about to go buy (for amazing price) a couple palettes of 6 pcf 2" mineralwool panels, 2x2 squares basically.

I'm then going to build some skyline style diffusors from wood.

I'm wondering where things should go.

First, the bass trapping; I can either line the corners with material, cover with fabric, and frame in place, kind of just trap it there. Use glue at the corners of the mineral wool.

Or I can build panels, but i probably wouldnt be trapping all of every corner, full length runs down the room or down the wall. Just trying to figure out which would be better.

Definitely going to use panels for the ceiling. Shooting for about 50% coverage.

Then comes diffusion, and I'm wondering where it would work best. I was thinking of covering the window with a large wood skyline style diffusor, and then using some of the same on the ceiling.

Would that be any good on a wall? rear/front? should the oppposite wall be dead or live?

Anyway.... hopefully this is the right forum, not sure which it would apply most to.

Thanks guys in advance

This sounds familiar; have your questions been answered on another thread? If so, please let me know and I'll delete this one... Steve
