Sealing outlets

How thick should my walls be, should I float my floors (and if so, how), why is two leaf mass-air-mass design important, etc.

Sealing outlets

Post by rbarnes »

I did some searching threads and havn't found any specific tips regarding the sealing of outlets. I have my room/in/room constructed and inside the sealed room all outlets will be surface mounted to minimize wall penetrations. In one of the adjacent rooms I do need to put outlets in the outer wall of the room/in/room. So its:

sheetrock with outlet | stud | air | stud | sheetrock

Insulation in the middle of course. Curious if there are any steps I should be taking around the outlets other than acoustic calk around the wiring 'knockouts' and where the outlet meets the sheetrock. Should I build little sheetrock boxes around them or something? I don't want to go overboard but it sure feels like big holes in my walls... Thoughts?

Thanks!
