Need a simple construction plan for my window

How thick should my walls be, should I float my floors (and if so, how), why is two leaf mass-air-mass design important, etc.

Need a simple construction plan for my window

Post by markchatwin »

Hi folks - I'm new to this board and did a search for window construction and found alot of glass ideas. I'm looking for simple and cost effective. I have a 4' x 4' space between my vocal iso and control room. It has a 7" pine window jam. I made some calls yesterday and I can get 1/2 inch laminated safety glass, 3/8" or 1/4". Two panes of 1/2" would be $550. 3/8" would be $500. 1/4" would be $340. The key questions I have are:
How many panes of what thickness are recommended?
What measurement of air separation should be between them?
Any special procedures for constructing this?
What type of caulk should I use?
I was planning on putting a pine strip on the inner part of the jam and simply adhering a pane to each side with caulk. The walls are 2 layers of 5/8" drywall with RC channel and 5/8" on the other side so I guess I want the window to have similar soundproofing - thanks.
