wood walls

How thick should my walls be, should I float my floors (and if so, how), why is two leaf mass-air-mass design important, etc.

wood walls

Post by elishasrequest »

I'm brand new to the forum today... I have the opportunity to start from scratch on a studio design in a 24 x 30 space, 9 foot ceilings. I have access to hundreds of board feet of random width one in thick rough sawn alder.

Would it be a good product to use on walls? Leave spaces between boards? Framed away from walls? Random angles?

I doubt this makes good walls. Wood is not massive enough. You better go with drywall except you're just doing voice overs adn acoustic guitar.

In case you didn't read this:

You may want to save your 4/4 alder, might work well for slat resonators in some parts of your studio - I'll let you get back to your reading now, welcome to the board... Steve

Thanks, Steve.... this is what I had in mind... Nearly every photo I see of pro studios shows slats of wood in various locations... now my job is to learn this stuff & figure out how to best use what resources I have.
