what kind of wood/timber for the window frame??

How thick should my walls be, should I float my floors (and if so, how), why is two leaf mass-air-mass design important, etc.

Hugo, whatever you have access to will work fine (no balsa :D )
Around here the most common "housbuilding" wood is spruce and pine which is "softwood". if it can hold a snowloaded roof it will "and in fact it does a 1000000² times) work for a window.
