Tim Wheat: Studio/Practice Space Nearly Complete
Well, after a year or so of reading and building, my space is now isolated from the rest of the world. Its not all the way completed so it isn't 100% asthetically pleasing, but I got to set up the drums and stacks and play last weekend. we were 130 db plus in the room and when I took my meter outside we were not noticeable above the din of the crickets, frogs, and cicadas (I live next to a reservoir). Anyway, you could hear low rumbling going on down there, but that was right outside the window. When I went out to the street and just outside my neighbors window I really had to listen to know that anything was going on. When I first went outside I actually thought that the guys had stopped. Pretty sweet when all the hard work pays off. Anyway, I've included a few pictures of what we have done now and will post again when fully completed. I'm working on the final touches the next few weekends and then I have to start on the hardwood flooring upstairs for the wife. Gotta do her project to get the go ahead on mine
Thanks a lot to everyone who helped me. The isolation works wonderfully, the risers work wonderfully, the star grounding and all that works perfectly. A good experience all around. Oh yeah, and I wouldn't have guessed you for 60 either Knightfly. THANKS GUYS!!!!!!!!!

c scale, and its as loud as my reader would do. One dsl 100 half stack. One tsl 100 full stack. One crate 2x15 bass and double bass thirty-seconds from hell and a lead singer screaming his balls off into a Mackie m1400i driving the peavey. Believe me, we all had hearing protection on and it was still loud. I took my earplugs out for a second and it hurt, A LOT. My neighbor didn't believe me either until I showed him. Its definitely a pretty awesome thing to learn all of this new stuff and have it all work just like its supposed to. I kept telling people that I knew what I was talking about, even though I really didn't, I was just spouting what I'd read here. Now I actually know. Anyway, thanks again guys. Have a good one.

There ya go, Keith; dBA would likely have been around 115 dB or so...
Speaking of which, I finally got my new SLM; hopefully will get a chance to play with it (more than just turning it on to see if it works) in a couple days.

Found out my "portable" AC/Dehumidifier really IS only 35 dBA on low setting, couldn't measure that with the RS meter. Bought the optional software/cable so should be able to do site profiles, etc with laptop connected.
Hey Tim, ain't it wunnerful when you can prove to doubting neighbors you're not "just another dumb rocker"?

Yeah, I bet they really thought they were in for it when they saw all of us long haired boys unloading all of that stuff into the basement. We just moved here in Feb. so everyone has been pretty curious about us so I gave one of the neighbors my masters thesis to read and I think they decided after that that my hair hadn't sucked my brains out.
Steve, you've got me jealous looking at your slm. Mine sucks now. Boys and their toys. Later

Most will be covered by bass traps/absorbers etc. The room is just functioning right now, not aesthetically perfect. Plus I had some sort of odd code things I had to follow here about not being in conduit if you come down a block wall, but you do if you come down a wood/gypsum wall, but you can come from the bottom on the wood/gypsum, I don't know. It was confusing enough that I had to read it about ten times to make sure I was doing it right. We'll get all of that stuff covered up eventually though. Thanks for lookin
