French Door - a mistake ?

How thick should my walls be, should I float my floors (and if so, how), why is two leaf mass-air-mass design important, etc.

French Door - a mistake ?

Post by realkuhl »

I'm looking at my options door-wise for the Entrance to my office that will lead into my little control room in my basement studio. A solid Core Exterior door with an included weather-sealed door is one option. The other is a double-pane french door where the majority of the door is glass. However I'm concerned about how sound proof the french door will NOT be compared to the solid core door. It's more expensive to go french but will look a lot nicer.

Question is will it make any difference sound-wise.

TIA,

If you are doiing an airlock system the french door is fine. If you notice john specs sliding patio doors in a lot of his designs, if you look at the construction of the patio door and compare it to the French door systems (i.e Pella) they are equally as resistant to allowing sound in...
