The RXL is supposed to be a bit stiffer, so would stay put better between studs; the RHT is more of a tank wrap with more flexibility at high temperatures, so would tend to sag more in most of our typical applications.
Neither product is a direct replacement for 703; that is a rigid fiberglass product with 3 PCF density, while both of the Roxul products you asked about are 4 PCF.
For actual in-room acoustic treatment, the roxuls would give a bit better LF absorption per unit thickness than 703, but probably a bit LESS higher frequency absorption especially at the more normal, NON perpendicular incidence. This would usually be a GOOD thing for the most part, as it would keep the room a bit brighter sounding.
For in-wall insulation, 2.5 PCF is about as high as you'd want; lower density improves on LF performance (just backward from intuition, like a lot of things acoustic) - in fact, the standard house insulation (fluffy fiberglass) does as well inside a wall as the more expensive rigid board types... HI and thanks for your quick reply,
I will be useing this stuff for celing clouds, corner traps , wall treatment and building a soffit.
with wood frame with cloth covering.
so it will need to be as stiff as or close to the 703
what do you think??
I would have used the 703 but AMS cant get it for 2 months! and there fluffy stuff is back ordered for 5 weeks!
Thanks,
steve
