If you're like me, you can be on here for hours looking up info for your individual project. Sometimes you'll run across a post that has something in it that's interesting which you may need NOW or possibly LATER. If you don't print it (WOW! the paper and INK that uses!), you may forget it and say later; "I saw that somewhere on the site, but WHERE was it"??? (Sometimes the "search" just doesn't bring up exactly what you're looking for, or may give you HUNDREDS of possibilities to SEARCH thru!)
Well, for those of you using a PC, (I don't know how MAC's do it
What you do is go to the Favorites area and create a folder. (Let's call it "My Studio") Take that folder and make sub-folders in it (Electrical, Walls, Ceilings, HVAC, etc etc whatever is best for you to locate what you need). Within each of these sub folders you can be specific as far as what item should be in that sub-folder.
For example:
Main folder name "My Studio"
1st sub folder- "Electrical"
Let's say you put in an oulet (receptical) box that has HOLES in it, and you're wondering, "this is gonna leak sound...what can I do about THIS???" Well, you spend a LOT of time on here and finally find this post...
http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2671
Well, now you have a post that answers your question, so you can either RENAME the post(file/link) (Windows will allow you to do this), or make a sub-sub folder that says something like "Wall outlets/Plugs" and save the post to THAT sub-sub folder. (I say sub-sub because it's 2 levels below the main folder named "My Studio")
So now this is how your Main folder looks...
Main folder name- "My Studio"
1st sub-folder- Electrical
Sub-sub folder under ELECTRICAL-"Wall outlets/Plugs"
Then the post (link/file) that you put in that sub-sub folder http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2671
So, for any info you read that pertains to wall outlets, plugs, recepticals etc, you can put it under this sub-sub folder.
By doing this, as you are constantly reading info on here, you can organize it and go back to it as needed. It might save you time from having to ask a question and waiting for a response about something you saw a month earlier as you "scrolled through someone's thread" or, just "happen" to run across by looking for 1 thing and seeing something you didn't even think about that you can use later. (The Moderators have lives and projects too, and from what I read, they are VOLUNTEERING their time!)
Some examples of sub-folders I did was: Electrical, HVAC, Vocal Booths, Absorbers-Traps-Acoustics, Control Rooms, Ceilings, Doors, Floors, Speakers, Finished Studios (These were posts/links that had pictures of FINISHED studios), Cables & Connectors, Walls, Constuction Pictures & Directions, and Miscellaneous.
Hopefully, you get what I'm saying about all this. YOU decide what you want to call your main folder and sub folders. Name the folders for what YOU can understand as far as what you're looking for. If you don't understand how to create these folders and sub-folders, I URGE you to get help from someone who can show you.
The main thing is to have SOMEWHERE to keep the stuff you find on here and to get to it in an orderly and quick manner...
Take care, and GOD Bless...
