Your thoughts on a simple cost-effective design...

Hello everyone...

I have a rough idea for a simple studio in my basement. I have already framed the walls (2x4) but thats it... The room sits in the corner of the basement 12'x16'x7.25'. The floor is currently on the concrete slab. I am planning on doubleing the drywall 2x1.2'' on the inside (including the ceiling) & 5/8" on the surronding walls. Do I need an air gap between layers? I'm unsure on the floor for now... Carpet is bad I suppose.

Can you offer any simple suggestions on this basic design? flooring for one... is carpet alright? what about the walls???

I also have a plan for my I/O and mixing... It will be PC based for now.

I also had a question about the above 2 items. Is a firewire board a viable option? (Trying to save money by combining the mixer and digital i/o)

Can the 1/4" jacks on the snake be used to send headphone signals into the room at the same time I am recieving the XLR's?

Brian, welcome; you'll get more response if you follow the guidelines in the very top post on each forum - the one that starts "Don't even THINK about..." - if you start there, and actually follow ALL the bold points, several of your questions will be at least partially answered, and you'll know more about what kind of information we need before we can help...
