VOCAL BOOTH AND STUDIO CONSTRUCTION IN LOFT CONVERSION

How thick should my walls be, should I float my floors (and if so, how), why is two leaf mass-air-mass design important, etc.

VOCAL BOOTH AND STUDIO CONSTRUCTION IN LOFT CONVERSION

Post by carbone »

HI EVERYONE IM A PRODUCER AND NEED HELP. I HAVE A LOFT CONVERION ROOM AND WISH TO BUILD A STUDIO.
I HAVE READ MANY POSTS AND THE INFORMATION IS REALLY USEFULL.
WHAT I AM ASKING IS IF ANYONE CAN GIVE A STEP BY STEP PLAY BY PLAY CONSTRUCTION INFO ON MAKING A VOCAL BOOTH FOR ONE PERSON.WHICH IS SOUND PROOF AND HAS ALL THE BENEFITS OF A PRO. THE VB NEEDS TO BE SOUNDPROOF SO I CAN PLAY BACK THE MUSIC WHILE THE ARTIST IS SINGING/RAPPIN. I NEED INFO ON WOOD , MATERIALS , SOUND PROOFING MATERIALS AND EXACTLY HOW TO BUILD IT. AS I SAID MY ROOM IS A LOFT CONVERSION , THE LENGTH IS 20FT ,WIDTH 12 FT, HEIGHT IN CENTRE OF THE ROOM AS A LOFT CONVERSION HAS SLOPING SIDES IS 6FT 8INCHES, FROM FLOOR TO WHERE SLOPE ON SIDE WALLS BEGINS IS 1 M. THERE IS AN ATTACHMENT WITH A BASIC ROOM PLAN.

WHERE WOULD BE THE BEST PLACE FOR THE TABLE WITH PC MONITOR ECT TO GO IN THE ROOM, AND THE BEST PLACEFOR THE VB. ALSO WHERE SHOULD I PLACE BASS TRAPS AND OTHER ROOM ACOUSTIC TREATMENTS

YOUR HELP IS GRATLY APPRECIATED AS LOFT CONVERSIONS ARE COMMON PLACE IN ENGLAND AND I KNOW MYSELF AND A LOT OF PEOPLE WILL BE GRATEFUL FOR ANY HELPAND ADVICE YOU CAN GIVE.

KEEP UP YHE GOOD WORK

First, can you please turn off the CAPS lock? Lower case is much easier to read, thanks -

Second, a booth needs all the same things done to work well as any other room, you will find a lot of help to get started understanding what works by reading the first 3-4 subjects in the REFERENCE section, about wall construction, mass-air-mass, etc -

With ceiling heights that low, it's gonna be tricky unless you lay down in the booth - hopefully you can draw a basic sketch showing your ceiling heights (an elevation drawing) - then we can kick some ideas around... Steve
Soooo, when a Musician dies, do they hear the white noise at the end of the tunnel??!? Hmmmm...

Aloha carbone,

I use Windoze paint as well. Be sure to save it as a jpeg or .gif (say around 600 pixels wide), and it should and load up and attach fine.

Can't anyone around here even afford the $80 Paint Shop Pro? :D i bought it 7 years ago and I still use it. I haven't even updated it. Still using 5.0, but it works great!
