heck of a crappy room layout

Post by taylor1725 »

well i was hoping for some tips on how to improve the sound in my room (or just deaden it). i basically want to record in the middle of the room using gobo's and have the room acoustics semi-decent. i will probably eventually hit the $500-$1000 mark (i know that's not a whole lot)...my plan for now is to get insulation, make a frame around it and put material on it, then hang them on the walls and even roof. i don't want to do anything permanent to the place. also i'm not super loud, vocals and guitar will be the loudest things i record...no drums in the near future.

so here's my room done in sketchup (first time using the program). i tried exporting the pic but it was over 700 pixels wide, i don't wanna get yelled at my first time posting :D
-the closet has 3 mirror doors that slide (sorry didn't draw them in)
-the room is to be used as a guest room as well, so there's a futon in there
-i might end up putting my desk diagonal where you see my make-shift bass trap, it's not a huge setup

so any comments would be appreciated...and yes i did a search and found LOTS of different rooms and ideas, but nothing i could compare to my own so i apologize if something like this was covered. tomorrow i will get my photoshop loaded and resize a picture for quick viewing. thanks in advance!!

"hey you should put up something on that wall"

there you go.

The problem is those glass sliding doors - most of your sound will go straight out there, plus they will reflect a lot back into the room.

Go and make some gobos and try them out mate - that's about all you can do.

cheers
