2003 Cheap DIY AC: refuted or still ok?

How thick should my walls be, should I float my floors (and if so, how), why is two leaf mass-air-mass design important, etc.

2003 Cheap DIY AC: refuted or still ok?

Post by philper »

The DIY AC thread contains a diagram for a small addition to a free-standing building that contains a standard window AC unit and a duct fan (see diagram). This set up would suit what I need and can afford for my little 10x12x9 backyard edit shack, but I didn't see any posts from people who had actually built it. This little room is for TV audio editing and mixing, not open mic recording at all, and I'm willing to live with a small increase in noise (over the vent fan I already have) to have it cooler in here in the summer.
So....did this work for anybody?

thanks

Philip, Rod incorporated a version of this in his book (see stickies in this forum) and he wouldn't have done that if it didn't work - also, Diet Cookie built a version of this into the ATTIC of his small outdoor rehearsal shed (also in the stickies; REFERENCE section) and although he didn't specifically mention how it worked, I would think I'd have heard back if it DIDN'T work (since he's in southern calif). I've seen a couple other members do this but don't recall where their threads are... Steve

Thanks--I did see it in Rod's book as well, and it is good to know that someone(s) actually tried this. We're going to put a storage room addition
on the side of my shed/edit room and the AC unit will go in there. Will report.
