***Star Ground Question ***

Post by Eggman »

Hi All,

I am finally finishing my studio after a steady three years of building. I couldn't have done it without the information I found on this forum. Thanks to everyone for all the time you've put in answering questions.

I installed IGR outlets, daisy-chaining my hot and neutrals and running a seperate ground from each outlet. I ran the ground wires to a central "star" point in an area ajacent to the studio. I would like to put a ground bar then run a single ground wire to my main electrical system ground rod.

My question is: What guage should I use for this final run between the star point and the ground rod? My star point gathers ground wires from 12 outlets.

As usual, thanks for the help.

The bigger the better. They make a bare solid copper wire that is used just for ground. I think it's about 4 AWG or so. I'm using about 2 awg if I remember correctly.

One more question before I go to work.

I have two rooms. For technical power I plan on using two 20 amp circiuts, on for each room.

I should "star" all the ground wires of both circuits together, as opposed to having a star for each circuit, right?

Also, should I run my #2ga ground wire along side my Rmex ,which carries the hot and neutral, back to near the main breaker box before I tie into the main system ground, or can I just deadhead my ground wire to the system ground rod outside from my star point.

Thanks

Doug

Doug,

Both rooms star earth them together. YOu are bound to have some items in them linked electrically .
Earth rod - wherever is convenient.

Take Care :D
