Easy Peasy wiring question for the experts.

My quick set-up:

Mics ---->MOTU 8pre ------> MAC computer

Have these nice monitors. I want to be able to use them both as "live sound" while I'm just messing around and also use them to monitor while I'm mixing and mastering on the computer.

Do I hook up the monitors from the back of the MOTU 8pre, or from the back of the MAC. If the MAC is the answer, I think the only ouput I have is the small 1/8 headphone jack. I know I can buy an 1/8 to 1/4 adapter, but that just doesn't seem right.

Any help?
